The 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle coins are among the most popularly acquired coins by American investors. Gold Eagles are the workhorse of the American Economy and are the official coin of the United States mint. The smaller, fractional coins offer greater divisibility and flexibility as well as a lower initial price point than their larger, 1oz counterparts.
Like all Gold Eagles, they were introduced to the American public in 1986 and they contain ¼ troy ounces of gold per coin. These coins typically are minted in Brilliant Uncirculated condition but can also be found in the collectible proof condition.
Each of the American Gold Eagles is a quarter ounce, like the other versions of Gold American Eagles, and contains 22-karat gold. American Gold Eagle coin production is based upon demand in the market, and as such economic factors often play into the production levels. As recently as the year 2022 the American Gold Eagle has completely sold out and suppliers have been restricted and limited by the US Mint due to overwhelming demand worldwide.
The front of each coin is the image of Lady Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 and the back displays of a family of nesting bald eagles.
